ST. JOSEPH, MO – Phil Welch Stadium, home of the St. Joe Mustangs, and the St. Joseph, Missouri Convention & Visitors Bureau  are set to host a double header between National Pro Fastpitch’s (NPF) newest teams, the Aussie Spirit and Cleveland Comets on June 29th.  This is the first time St. Joseph will see an incredible pro fastpitch match-up such as this one.

The double header at Phil Welch Stadium will conclude the six-game stretch between the Aussie Spirt and the Cleveland Comets.  The Aussies will head to T-Bones Stadium on July 9th to take on the USSSA Pride.

Mustangs General Manager Ky Turner is excited about the opportunity. “We know St. Joe loves and supports Mustangs baseball, but we also know there is a strong passion for softball in our community. We will have the same game day environment as we do for Mustangs game, and will be a fun event for all ages. We’re excited to host these elite softball players.”

The Aussie Spirit roster features Stacey Porter, Captain of the Australian National Team and an Olympic Bronze and Silver medalist. The Australian team also features Taylah Tsitsikronis, who has two seasons of NPF experience with the Pennsylvania Rebellion and the Chicago Bandits and was the first Aussie Spirit player to sign for 2018. Rachel Lack, out of the University of Hawaii and veteran Aussie Spirit star is also part of the roster coming to St. Joseph.

“We are excited be the summer training home for the Aussie’s and to host the Beijing Eagles, Cleveland Comets and USSSA Pride this summer,” Lindsay Bernard from the St. Joseph Convention and Visitors Bureau said. “This is a great opportunity to showcase our facilities, MWSU Griffon Spring Sport Complex and Phil Welch Stadium, and our amazing community.  Hosting an international competition is a big deal! We look forward to cheering them on at games and watching them interact with our local softball community.”

The Comets roster holds a solid rookie in the University of Wisconsin’s Chloe Miller, backed by Megan Betsa and Sara Groenewegen who both have a year of NPF experience under their belts. The young talent is backed by an impressive display of NPF veterans in outfielder Shellie Robinson, a third year vet, and catcher Alexa Peterson, a 4 year NPF veteran.

Following each game both teams will be available for autographs and to meet and greet fans in attendance at the ballpark. On Friday, June 29th, gates will open at 3:00pm with a first pitch set for 4:05pm.
