Chaz Verduzco crushed the ball into the left field corner. The Renegades left fielder tracked the ball, backing up until the outfield wall in Phil Welch stadium prevented him from retreating further. Trailing 3-2 in a back-and-forth game, Verduzco cleared the fence and broke the game open, giving the Mustangs a 5-3 lead.
Late game offense propelled the Mustangs to a victory over the Jefferson City Renegades 9-3.
Trailing by a run in the second, the Mustangs rallied. Back-to-back singles and a walk left the bases loaded for Brody Santilli who found an open patch of grass in left field with a bloop single to score Alex Phillips, tying the game.
The Mustangs again found themselves down a run in the sixth inning. Mason Janvrin hit a sharp groundball that could not be handled by Renegade’s second baseman Ethan Rackers. The ball squirted into right field as Verduzco came home to score.
Mustangs starting pitcher Corey Cowan threw six innings, giving up two runs while collecting three strikeouts.
The Mustangs are proud to support those who keep our community safe. Mustangs played host to a pregame softball matchup between the local fire and police departments.
All Firemen, Policemen and EMT personnel received two free general admission tickets to Saturday’s game.
The St. Joe fire department came away with the victory for the fourth straight year.
The Mustangs added some insurance in the eighth. With the bases loaded, Terrence Spurlin found a gap in the infield. Janvrin and Santilli scored as Spurlin cruised into second for a two RBI double.
Jordan Maxson stepped to the plate and kept the rally going. The catcher connected on a two-run single bringing home Phillips and Zachary Smith.
The first 250 fans to the ballpark received a Mustangs piggy bank curtsey of UMB bank.
Grant Hoppock pitched three innings in relief giving up a run and striking out one.
Mustang’s fans received a front row seat to the Mosaic Life Care Fireworks Spectacular featuring the top songs from the year 2015.

Brody Santilli went 3-4 with one RBI.
Corey Cowan pitched six innings surrendering two runs with three strikeouts.

The Renegades lead the season series against the Mustangs, 3-2.
Verduzco has homered in two of the past three games.
The Mustangs totaled 18 hits on the night.
The Mustangs will hit the road for a pair of games against the Ozark Generals (16-13) and Sedalia Bombers (21-8).
St. Joe will be back at Phil Welch 7 p.m. Thursday to take on the Clarinda A’s in the first game of a two-game series.
