On June 6th the St. Joseph School District and its Summer Explorers Program visited Phil Welch Stadium and the 2014 St. Joseph Mustangs.
The field trip consisted of 300 students that participated in many different activities during the day. Each station had three to four Mustangs players that were there giving instruction on different baseball drills. The drills ranged from "pickle" practice and base running, to the proper way to stretch before a game. When they were not on the field, the kids were able to play a few of the many nightly promotional games that the Mustangs offer, including the ever popular Hyvee Bucket Toss. Finally, they got a tour of Historic Phil Welch Stadium, getting to see a lot of the in's and out's of the ball park.
The Summer Explorers program has students from four different elementry schools in St. Joe: Hosea, Parkway, Pickett and Skaith. Kids ranging from Pre-kindergarten to the 6th grade are eleigible to be apart of the program.
