The St. Joe Mustangs score six runs in the eighth to pick up the win. The Mustangs defeated the North Kansas City Apartments 8-4 tonight.
The Mustangs were held scoreless through the first five innings. The Apartments took a 1-0 lead in the first. North Kansas City picked up another run off of Mustangs’ pitcher Miles Gully in the second. The score remained 2-0 until the top of the fifth. The Apartments added another run this time off of Mustangs’ reliever Reed Morton.
North Kansas City took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Mustangs got on the board when Evan McDonald scored on a wild pitch. The very next pitch Brady Anderson hit a sacrifice fly that scored Ryan Abernathy.
The Mustangs trailed going into the bottom of the eighth inning 4-2. After an error by the pitcher, a single, and a walk, the Mustangs had the bases loaded and one out for Brady Anderson. Anderson lined a three RBI double down the right field line. St. Joe took the lead 5-4. The Mustangs added three more runs in the inning to make it 8-4.
Miles Gully took the mound for the Mustangs. Gully went four innings, allowed seven hits, two runs, and walked three. Reed Morton pitched two and a third innings, allowing three hits, two runs, and walked three. Austin Aspegren picked up the victory for the Mustangs. Aspegren threw two and two thirds innings and did not allow a hit, while striking out three.
Bryce Bentley took the loss for North Kansas City. Bentley pitched a third of an inning, allowing one hit, three runs, and while walking one.
The Mustangs are back in action tomorrow night. They take on the BJ Raiders. First pitch is scheduled for seven o’clock.
