The St. Joseph Mustangs fell to the Kansas City Monarchs Wednesday night. The Monarchs defeated the Mustangs 3-0.
It turned into a pitcher’s duel Wednesday night at Phil Welch Stadium. Mustangs’ starter Miles Gully didn’t allow a run until the sixth inning and Monarchs’ starter Jonathan Krysa allowed just six hits in the game.
Jonathan Krysa pitched a complete game shutout for the Monarchs.
Miles Gully went 7 1/3 innings, allowing just three hits, but gave up two runs for the Mustangs. Reed Morton replaced Gully, but didn’t record an out and allowed one unearned run. Austin Aspegren finished the eighth inning and Brett Ash pitched a scoreless ninth in the loss.
The Monarchs scored when Morgan Johann hit a sacrifice fly deep enough to score Jordan Hurtt from third to make it 1-0 in the sixth.
Kansas City added two more runs in the eighth to make it 3-0.
The Mustangs travel to Joplin to take on the Outlaws tomorrow night. First pitch is set for seven o’clock.
