John Millan tossed six scoreless innings to lower his season ERA to 0.33.
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Mustangs’ pitcher John Millan threw six shutout innings in his second start as St. Joseph cruised to a 9-3 victory over the Ban Johnson All-Stars on Sunday night at Phil Welch Stadium.
In back-to-back games the Mustangs number two batter has started the game with a homerun in the first inning. A year and a day after his first home run for St. Joseph, center fielder Jacob Richardson launched a solo shot in the top of the first. Richardson finished the night 1-3 with 2 RBIs.
Playing third base for the Mustangs, Davey Casciola reached base in every plate appearance going 3-3 with two walks, three RBI, two runs, and a double.
Designated hitter Kyle Uhrich hit a second double in two games that scored one for St. Joe during a five-run rally in the sixth inning.
St. Joseph pitchers struck out 10 batters tonight allowing three runs on seven hits and seven walks.
Millan finished the night with a season ERA of 0.33 and 20 strikeouts in 2016 after striking out four against the Ban Johnson All-Stars.
Jeremiah Figueroa threw one inning for St. Joseph in the ninth inning, striking out his first couple of batters but allowing two unearned runs on a single and a couple of hit batters.
The Mustangs tallied nine runs on 10 hits and one error as the team drew eight walks, struck out six times, and stole five bases on five attempts.
St. Joseph improves to 23-8 with a 16-8 record in the MINK North, while Millan’s record moves to 4-0.
On July 4, St. Joseph will take on the third place Sedalia Bombers in MINK League North action. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
