Two Mustang home runs by Josh Williams helped set up a 5-2 Mustangs victory over the Clarinda A’s.
The 6’5” 250 pound designated hitter hit his first home run to left field in the fourth inning. Four innings later, he made contact with a ball which flew into the St Joe bullpen.
His second home run extended the Mustangs’ lead to three after Clarinda closed within two in the 7th.
Prior to Williams’ offensive streak, both teams struggled to gain much ground on the field. Three errors combined were given up by both teams early. The Mustangs offense was back to its scoring way early as they were able to make a breakthrough in the 1st.
An RBI double by catcher Brady Anderson brought in center fielder Brody Santilli for the first points of the game.
Anderson found home plate soon after following a putout by right fielder Jeremiah Figueroa moments before the first inning came to an end.
Second baseman Easton Fortuna found himself on first base after being walked by the A’s. A RBI double by shortstop Matt Wollnick advanced Fortuna to home extending the lead to 3.
Clarinda broke down the Mustangs lead in the fifth inning ending following three balls and a wild pitch which eventually led to the A’s scoring.
Two innings later, Clarinda scored another run cutting the Mustang’s lead to two runs. Williams’ second home run of the night came just an inning later. Kyle Uhrich came in to shut the door on the A’s as the Mustangs improve to 6-1 and tie the A’s at the top of the MINK North with a conference record of 3-1.
