The Mustangs hit the ground running early as Jacob Richardson reached base safely with two outs. Then he stole second in one fell swoop, setting up Kaleb Reid perfectly as he pushed the ball up the middle to give the Mustangs the early 1-0 lead in the second.
The Renegades took back one run in the top of the 3rd with a sac fly to make the score one all.
The Mustangs continued their momentum into the third inning. Joshua Lincoln started the inning with a leadoff single and after an out by the next batter it was all small ball. Lincoln took second on the next at bat as a passed ball put another Mustangs runner in scoring position, Brady Anderson gave him one more base as a single put runners on the corners with one out. Lincoln would find his way home after Anderson held the Renegades attention in a pickle at first base giving the Mustangs a 2-1 lead. The scoring continued as Colton Pogue singled to put runners on the corners again. Pogue stole second and the throw over allowed Anderson to steal home to make the score 3-1 Mustangs.
The Renegades were held at bay by starting pitcher John Monson who went 6.1 innings only allowing two earned runs on two hits and compiling five strikeouts.
The sixth inning was the start of the collapse for the Mustangs as Monson walked the first batter, but was soon replaced by reliever Jonathan Lynch. Lynch struggled as he gave up two hits and allowed three runners to reach the plate in the seventh inning while only recording one out tying the game up at four a piece. Pitcher Logan Campbell recorded the final out of the seventh, before pitching the eighth.
Campbell gave up four hits and walked one giving the Renegades offense four more runs added to their total to make the score 8-4.
The Mustangs offense never rekindled in the ninth inning as they fell 8-4. The defeat brings the Mustangs overall record to 27-11 and 21-10 in MINK League play.
