Mustangs falter in 9th

The Mustangs suffered the consequences falling 6-5 in the 11th inning following a ninth inning rally by the Ozark Generals in game one of the MINK Championship Series.

 

Starting pitcher Osvaldo Raya began the first inning shaky, allowing three of the first four General batters to reach base. Only one managed to score, giving the Generals a 1-0 lead.

 

Raya followed up retiring nine consecutive batters. In the process, the Mustangs took the lead.

 

Brody Santilli led of with a single to start the top of the third. Matt Wollnik doubled to second advancing Santilli third before an error by the left fielder brought him in tying the game 1-1 with no outs.

 

Jacob Richardson and Colton Pogue were caught for outs at first, but Wollnik managed to find home giving the Mustangs a 2-1 lead.

 

The next runs came in the top of the seventh. The inning began as the Generals walked Santilli. He advanced to second on a wild pitch, before Brady Anderson brought him in for the Mustangs’ third run of the game.

 

Drew Standifer singled with two outs extending the Mustangs’ lead to 4-1.

 

Raya gave up his first hit since  the first inning with one out in the bottom of the seventh. The runner advanced to third following two wild pitches, but Raya managed to find the final two outs of his start.

 

Nikko Pablo came into close, but struggled from the rubber.

 

An error by Wollnik allowed the first runner to base, before Pablo loaded the bases with no outs. Pablo allowed four runs to tie the game with one out. He recorded the final two outs of the inning, sending the game into extra innings tied 5-5.

 

Pablo gave up one more run in the bottom of the 11th,  giving Ozark the first victory of the series.

 

The Mustangs return home for game two of the MINK Championship series tonight. Gates open at 5:30, with first pitch set for 7. A Mustang win will send the series into a deciding game Monday night.
