Jake VanVacter pitched from start to finish as he edged the Mustangs to a 4-1 victory over the Ozark Generals evening the series at one a piece in the do or die game.
The pitching duel was on from the get go as both sides suffered a steady lack of offense at the hands of each other’s pitchers.
The Mustangs finally cracked the seal in the bottom of the fourth inning where Brady Anderson singled on a line drive to centerfield. With one out, Joshua Williams brought in Anderson with a line drive of his own giving the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.
A wild pitch to Erasmo Gonzalez brought Williams in extending the lead to 2-0.
Jake VanVacter gave up one run in the top of the sixth, shortening the Mustangs’ lead to 2-1. The Mustangs wanted nothing to do with the damage, taking advantage of offensive advantage in the bottom of sixth.
The Generals walked Williams to start the bottom of the seventh. Two outs later, Jacob Richardson singled to right field. Gonzalez singled loading the bases, before an error by the second baseman brought Fortuna to second base. Williams and Richardson were brought in, extending the Mustangs’ lead to 4-1.
VanVacter continued his solid start all the way to the final out, finishing the night striking out six while allowing only five hits. The Mustangs advance to game three of the MINK Championship Series tomorrow night in a win or take all finale at Phil Welch.
