The Kansas City Monarchs defeated the Mustangs 7-0 on Thursday. The loss evens the Mustangs season record to 1-1.
Monarch’s batters jumped on Mustang’s starting pitcher Mack Stephenson early with three runs in the first inning.
The game turned into a pitchers duel as both teams struggled to garner any offense.
Zachary Smith connected on a double in the second inning to put the Mustangs in scoring position, but the Monarch’s defense clamped down to prevent a run.
Fans at the game enjoyed Family Night, courtesy of Rogers Pharmacy. Tonight saw the inaugural evening of Kids Cheer Free which coincided with Dollar Hot Dog, thanks to Citizens Bank and Trust.
Before the game young mustangs fans were read children’s books by their favorite mustangs players. Following the game some future Mustangs ran the bases of Phil Welch with Rally.
Right fielder Zachery Smith went 2-4 at the plate and hit a double in his first plate appearance in a Mustang’s uniform.
Left fielder Brody Santilli went 1-3 with a single in his first game back with the Mustangs this season.
The Mustangs are 8-2 in their last 10 non-conference games.
The Mustangs drop to 4-3 all time against the Monarchs.
The Mustangs will be back in action at 7 p.m. Friday night as they open up conference play against the Nevada Griffons at Phil Welch Stadium.
