Zachary Smith stepped to the plate in the first inning and blasted a hit into left field. The ball careened off the Speedy’s Convenience store sign in left field while Colton Eremian sped around the bases and beat the throw to the plate giving the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.
Saint Joseph wasted no time getting on the board taking on the Outlaws Thursday night. The Mustangs used the early offense and sensational pitching to defeat the Outlaws 7-1.
Before the game fans were given the opportunity to create their own-custom-baseball card celebrating the Mustangs Tenth Anniversary Season.
Starting pitcher Drake Kanallakan continued his dominant start to the season with another dazzling performance on the mound. Kanallakan picked up right where he left off after not giving up a hit in his last outing. The starter pitched nine innings with ten strikeouts, surrendering three hits and a run.
Leading 2-0 in the fifth inning, the Mustangs added another insurance run with some help from their opponent. Jordan Maxson hit a sharp line drive to left field that was misplayed and dropped by the Outlaw’s Alec Capshaw allowing Smith to score.
The Mustangs padded the lead with three runs in the eighth on the way to victory.
Fans celebrated the win on Family Night, brought to you by Roger’s Pharacy, where one adult ticket scored three-free kids tickets. Once in the stadium fans enjoyed $1 hot dogs. Additionally, kids were given the opportunity to run the bases with Rally following the win.
Drake Kanallakan pitched nine innings with ten strikeouts giving up three hits.
Shortstop Zach Purdue went 3-3 with a double, two singles and two runs.
Right fielder Zachary Smith went 2-2 with three walks, two runs and two RBI.
Kanallakan pitched 15 consecutive innings of no hit baseball dating back to his last start before giving up a hit in the seventh.
The Mustangs posted a run in the first inning for the third time this season.
Alex Phillips added a double to his season total of five. He jumps into a tie for second most in MINK league this season.
The Mustangs will be back at Phil Welch Friday for the second game of the three-game series against the Outlaws.
The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a Mustangs Tote Bag courtesy of the Whole Person Home Healthcare.
The Mustangs will be celebrating Rally’s tenth birthday party. Come out and celebrate with some of Rally’s closest mascot fans.
