Mustangs unable to close out Chillicothe at home

06/20/2018 9:22 PM -

Terrance Spurlin launched a fly ball down the right field line. With just one obstacle in its way the ball snuck inside the foul pole and crashed onto the Hy-Vee party deck.

The home run was not enough to topple Chillicothe on Wednesday as the Mustangs late-game rally fell just short by a 5-4 final.

Fans enjoyed Stranger Stangs Halloween night with pregame Trick or Treat, Stranger Things costumes, photo booth, and opportunity to purchase limited edition Mustangs T-Shirt.

Trailing 3-0 in the sixth, centerfielder Mason Janvrin began the inning with a triple to deep center field. Standing just 90 feet away from home, right fielder Zachary Smith got the job done with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Janvrin raced home, slammed on the breaks and danced around Chillicothe catcher Jared Fry to score the run, cutting the lead to two before Spurlin’s blast.

With the bases loaded, Smith delivered again in the seventh. The right fielder shot a single through a gap in the infield to score Joshua Lincoln. The hit gave the Mustangs a one-run advantage.

The Mudcats were able to bring two runs across the plate in the ninth to claim the victory.

The Mustangs are proud to partner with the Noyes Home for Children. Fans were allowed free admission to Wednesdays with a donation to the children’s home. For more information or to make a donation visit noyeshome.org
