Mustangs 2020 Schedule Release

Updated: Feb 12, 2020

The reigning 2019 MINK League Champions St. Joseph Mustangs’ 2020 season will kick off against the Chillicothe Mudcats on May 27th, 2020.

"Opening Night has turned into a festive event in our community," Mustangs general manager Ky Turner said. "Mustangs Baseball and post game fireworks-Opening Night on May 27th is the official kick off into summer. Our players are excited to return for Phil Welch experience, and our incredible home crowds. It’s such a fun atmosphere that we’ve been looking forward to since last season ended."

The Mustangs will welcome two new teams to the MINK League and Phil Welch Stadium this year, the Chanute (KS) Hoots and Des Moines (IA) Prospects. “There’s a lot of interest in the MINK League among communities, and we’re excited to add two great organizations,” noted Turner, who also serves as the MINK League President. Several traditions will continue in 2020, including honoring the armed forces with two home games on July 3 and July 4. Both games will feature post game fireworks.

One notable change to the schedule is the Mustangs Alumni game. “When we add more teams to the league, we also add more league games to the schedule. We really enjoy seeing some of our Mustangs legends from the past at Phil Welch, and we’ll now play the Alumni team every other year as a result of the league expansion. We will continue with a special night to host and recognize those players in the years we don’t match up on the field,” said Turner.

The 2020 season features one doubleheader at Phil Welch Stadium, against the Chillicothe Mudcats on June 12.

Excitement is all around, noted Turner. “We’ve had some great players come through the gates of Phil Welch, and Coach Coy is excited about the group for 2020. Our season ticket sales are very strong, and we’ve already sold out a number of group areas and sponsorships for 2020. The community support we see in St. Joseph is second to none. We’re working on some fun new surprises to the game day experience in 2020.”

In all, the Mustangs will play 27 home games at Phil Welch Stadium in 2020. The Mustangs finished the 2019 season averaging a record 2,469 fans per game, ranking 9th nationally.

Mustangs coach Johnny Coy will return for his third season, winning the teams 6th MINK League Title in 2019.

Season tickets for 2020 are available by visiting Phil Welch Stadium or calling 816-279-STJO (7856).
