(September 5, 2023) -- The St. Joseph Mustangs and the St. Joseph School District are teaming up this year to keep the momentum going on improving regular school attendance.
During the month of September, Attendance Awareness Month, the Mustangs have planned several fun activities to engage with students and encourage regular attendance in our schools.
Mustangs Reading Program Kick Off:
Each year, the Mustangs organization provides a free reading program to local elementary schools. Students may earn free tickets to a Mustangs game and other prizes by participating in the program. The Mustangs will travel to various schools for a free school program, promoting reading, attendance, and more.
Mustangs Attendance Challenge:Mustangs Night Out:
The Mustangs are offering a special incentive to each school in the SJSD that meets this year’s attendance goal for the year. They will be invited to their “own night” at a Mustangs home game during the regular 2024 season, which includes free tickets for the students and staff!
“We are excited to partner up with the Saint Joseph School District and highlight why it’s so important to be in school every day,” said Mustangs Team Owner Ky Turner. “Mustangs fans are some of the best across the country. We set a record for game attendance this past season. More importantly, we’d love to set a record for attendance in our schools this year as well.”
The partnership is one of several ways the SJSD is raising awareness about the issue of chronic absenteeism and working to improve the district’s proportional attendance rate.
Dr. Kendra Lau, Director, School Improvement with the SJSD noted, “The St. Joseph School District is excited to partner with the Mustangs to hit our attendance goal of 90%. It's time for an attendance homerun!”
