St. Joseph, Mo. (June 12, 2021) - The Mustangs won in commanding style over the Renegades, thanks to a four-run seventh inning.
Sean O’Malley led the Mustangs to their win with a two-out double to the wall that cleared the bases and sent three Mustangs’ runners home.
O’Malley was awarded Player of the Game for his late-inning heroics.
“The last couple days we have been doing a little extra batting practice as a team and understanding our approach,” said O’Malley. “As we begin our four-game road trip, as long as we keep up our routine, we’ll be okay.”
On Saturday, the Mustangs were able to win their third game of the season - and second at home - in front of a crowd of 1,742 fans. St. Joseph celebrated Baby Yoda Night at Phil Welch. The Mustangs also celebrated the first Saturday Night Fireworks since the announcement earlier in the week that the weekly firework show will be returning for the remainder of the 2021 season.
The Mustangs wore purple jerseys in honor of former beloved Mustangs employee, Erin Hook. The team auctioned off game-worn jerseys to benefit the Erin Hook Scholarship Foundation.
The Mustangs will begin a four-game road trip on Sunday. The team heads first to Nevada, Missouri to play the Griffons.
Then St. Joseph will return home for Sandlot night next Thursday, June 17 to host the Ban Johnson Raiders at 7:00 p.m.
