SAINT JOSEPH, Mo. -- The St Joe Mustangs are your 2024 MINK League champions after beating the Clarinda A's in a 3-1 winner-takes-all game.
The Mustangs end the season with an overall record of 40-9 and a conference record of 33-8.
Trenton Roehler started for the Mustangs and had four excellent innings, recording four strikeouts without giving up a run.
The Mustang's offense ignited in the fourth with Dom Felix hitting an RBI single to left field to score the Mustang's first run and take the lead.
Roehler returned in the fifth to give up a hit but got out of a dangerous situation with an A on first.
The fifth was great for the Mustangs, as Easton Bruce's RBI single and Carson Schrack's sacrifice groundout scored two runs to extend the Mustangs' lead to 3-0.
Roehler sat after five innings, giving up a double and the inning to Bronco Witt. After an emphatic ovation for Roehler, Witt gave up a single to give the A's their first run to trail 3-1.
Witt wouldn't let the A's score any more runs after that. He took the A's out 1-2-3 in the seventh, recorded a strikeout after giving up a single, and retired for the game to another standing ovation.
Jaren Guck closed out the eighth and returned in the ninth, recording the final strikeout of the 2024 season. The Mustangs won the championship 3-1.
With this, the Mustangs earn their ninth MINK League championship.
